Guru Rinpoche means precious teacher. This name is often reserved for Padmasambhava, the 2nd Buddha who lived in the 1st century. Born in the Oddiyana Valley (now Pakistan), he spread the teachings of the Buddha throughout India and then into Tibet. His presence is said to spread the wisdom of indestructible truth.
